Among the various regular characters, Troi's empathic ability distinguishes her.  This ability, which she developed through her Betazoid mother, often makes her more vulnerable and less aggressive.  It also enables her role as Counselor.  Considered withTroi's other 'feminine' traits, this level of emotional connectedness is marked as uniquely feminine and secondary to logic and masculinity.
