Assimilate This!
While the United Federation of Planets (roughly analogous
to the United Nations) fiercely resists the Borg's battle mantra, "You
will be assimilated. Resistance is futile," Federation culture consistently
encourages and enforces assimilation into its Human norm. Troi is
promoted as she becomes more Human and less Betazoid. She loses her
accent, more readily questions her mother's traditions, and learns to suppress
her empathy to assume command.
To think on...
-How does she change over time? Dress, speech, hobbies,
responsibilities, ways of interacting with other people?
-How do others react to these changes?
-How does she think and feel about her transformation?
-Does the plot explain why she changes? Her initiative
or in response to someone's coercion?
